We belong to the East Shropshire School Sports Partnership which enables us to participate in a number of interschool competitions. The partnership also supports staff development and enhances pupil participation in PE.

St Johns runs a number of extracurricular sports clubs with teachers and teaching assistants, outside coaches and parent volunteers. We provide a wide variety of activities depending on the season (e.g. archery, dodgeball, cross country football, rugby, hockey, high five, rounders , Kwik cricket, golf, athletics and gymnastics).

We have strong links with local sports clubs from in and around the Bridgnorth area and these are signposted to the pupils. Each academic year, every child in Year 2 to Year 6 has a series of swimming lessons. These take place in school time as part of the curriculum.

We also enter a variety of sports tournaments and festivals including:

  • KS1 Cross Country, Orienteering, Multi-Skills
  • Summer Games Festival and Winter Games Festival
  • KS2 Tri-Golf, Cross Country and Athletics
  • Swimming (Year 4 and 6)
  • Years 4-6 Football, Y4-6 Cricket, Rounders, Hockey, High Five and Rugby
  • Tennis
  • Change4life Festival
  • Gymnastics
  • Aquathon and Triathlon

Qualified Teaching Assistants organise break and lunchtime activities enabling pupils to participate in a range of games. The school’s Play Leaders and Sports Ambassadors help with the organisation of these activities.

Each term every class has an inter-house festival when every pupil competes in PE activities to gain points for their house team.
